ZOA: Trump’s Inaccurate Claim That Peace “Depends On Israeli…Sacrifice” Ignores Israeli Concessions/Palest. Intransigence & Goals

ZOA Urges Trump -- Review Facts and Issue Corrected Statement

Zionist Organization of America president Morton A. Klein released the following statement: The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) is alarmed, outraged and disappointed by presidential candidate Donald Trump’s factually inaccurate and ludicrous claim that a successful peace deal between Israel and the Palestinian Arab dictators  “has to do with Israel and whether or not Israel’s willing to sacrifice certain things.”   In fact, peace depends on one thing:  Whether Palestinian Arabs and their governing entities Hamas, the PLO and the Palestinian Authority, give up their decades-long goal of destroying Israel, murdering every Jew, and completely replacing Israel with a Palestinian Arab state “from the river to the sea.”

Israel has made sacrifice after sacrifice, concession after concession – including giving away large swaths of historic Jewish land in Judea and Samaria (the “West Bank”) and all of Gaza to Palestinian Arabs – only to be met with Palestinian Arab intransigence and unremitting terror attacks on innocent Israelis.  Palestinian Arabs have repeatedly rejected generous “peace settlements,” including in 1937, 1947, 2000, and 2008.   In  2000 and 2008, Israel offered Palestinian Statehood, with 97% of the West Bank, large parts of Jerusalem (the Jewish people’s holiest city), and parts of Israel proper – only to be rejected by the Palestinian Arab leadership – which refused a state if Palestinian statehood meant making a final peace with Israel, and “no further claims.”  Also during the last seven years Palestinian president Abbas has refused to negotiate with Israel-having met with Netanyahu only twice. Abbas’ rejectionism comes in spite of the fact that Netanyahu had frozen settlement building for an unprecented 10 months, and has since built less than any previous Israeli Prime Minister. Abbas’ refusal to negotiate, repeated incitement to violence against Israel in his speeches, media and schools, his proclamations that no Israeli Jew will be permitted to live in any future Palestinian state, makes clear that its Abbas’ rejectionism that prevents peace. And that his real goal is Israel’s destruction.

Israel has made sacrifice after sacrifice, concession after concession … only to be met with Palestinian Arab intransigence and unremitting terror attacks on innocent Israelis.

The great, prescient Zionist leader, Vladimir Jabotinsky wrote in The Iron Wall in 1923 that “As long as the Arabs feel that there is the least hope of getting rid of us, they will refuse to give up this hope in return for either kind words or for bread and butter.”   Jabotinsky explained that we will never have peace until the Arabs drop their extremist leaders and come to us with moderate leaders and proposals.   He wrote:  “the only way to reach an agreement in the future is to abandon all idea of seeking an agreement at present.”

Similar to Jabotinsky, Donald Trump wrote in his best-selling book, The Art of the Deal:  “The worst thing you can possibly do in a deal is seem desperate to make it. That makes the other guy smell blood, and then you’re dead.”

Thus, in other international contexts, Donald Trump apparently understands the importance of strength when dealing with terrorists.   Trump does not propose that America should make “sacrifices” to ISIS as the way for America to make peace with ISIS.   Instead, Trump speaks about strengthening our U.S. military so that enemies won’t attack Americans.  It is mystifying why, in the case of Israel, Mr. Trump proposes weakening Israel with more Israeli “sacrifices” as the route to making peace with the Palestinian Arab terrorist governments that incite Palestinian Arabs to murder, bomb, knife, and run over with their cars and trucks innocent Israeli civilians.

ZOA is especially disappointed in Mr. Trump’s remarks because Donald Trump repeatedly spoke out against the catastrophic Iran deal.  Donald Trump, along with presidential candidate Senator Ted Cruz, stood together with ZOA President Morton Klein in Washington, DC to oppose the dangerous deal with Iran.   Seeing Donald Trump’s outspoken denunciations of the Iran deal led us to believe that Mr. Trump’s heart is in the right place.

ZOA urges Mr. Trump to review the history of Palestinian Arab war against Israel, and Israel’s extraordinary unilateral peace efforts, and to promptly correct his statement about who is responsible for the lack of peace.
