ZOA Appoints New Development Director

New York – The Zionist Organization of America is pleased and proud to announce that a dean of Jewish fundraisers, Mr. Sheldon Fliegelman, has joined the ZOA as Vice-President of Development and Planning.

Mr. Fliegelman’s long and distinguished career began in 1976 at the Anti-Defamation League, when he moved from the position of Controller to Associate Director of Development. In 1982, he became Director of Development at ADL, in which post he remained until 1992. Under his leadership, ADL’s revenues rose from $6.5 million annually to more than $35 million annually.

Mr. Fliegelman then joined the Orthodox Union as National Director of Development. In his nearly ten years at the OU, the fundraising revenues also increased substantially.

Mr. Fliegelman decided to join the ZOA because “the situation in Israel is so dire, and the ZOA is virtually alone among American Jewish organizations in having the courage to actually say what everyone is thinking. In times like these, the ZOA’s voice needs to be strengthened as much as possible, and strength is a function of an organization’s financial foundation, in great part.”

Mr. Fliegelman’s plans for the ZOA also include reinvigorating ZOA’s regional operations, bolstering the young leadership contingent, and increasing the organization’s base of support through individual gifts, dinners, and a planned giving and endowment campaign.

Mr. Fliegelman is married with three children, and lives in New York.
